Discover this year’s Nike running shirts!
18 March 2026Continuing the tradition of incorporating works by Latvia’s most outstanding artists into the design of the Rimi Riga Marathon shirts and medals, this year the official Rimi Riga Marathon Nike running shirt will feature an artwork by artist Boriss Bērziņš (1930–2002) – “In Waves.”
The choice of Boriss Bērziņš’s work is no coincidence, as this year we are launching a new four-year art concept in collaboration with the Latvian National Museum of Art, which will expand on a large scale and continue until 2029!
Boriss Bērziņš’s creative legacy in the museum’s collection comprises more than 10,000 works, including paintings and a large number of drawings. One of these masterpieces the drawing “In Waves” – has been given the honor of adorning the 2026 marathon shirts, while the adaptation of the artwork for the Nike running shirts was carried out by the studio “KID Design,” with designers Maija Rozenfelde and Jānis Kozinda.
Boriss Bērziņš work essentially celebrates and highlights the human body, but the drawing ‘In Waves’ particularly attracted attention with its dynamism and relevance to the theme. It tells a story about the body in motion, interacting with the environment, with obstacles, with nature and its power. Approaching the artist’s original work with respect, the goal was to preserve its nuances while presenting it in a contemporary execution. Authentically and truthfully revealing Boriss Bērziņš’s view of beauty in every body, giving runners the opportunity to appreciate their own unique strength!

Boriss Bērziņš entered the art world as a kind of original talent, who was able to perceive and depict the surrounding world with great sincerity. He loved form, which he borrowed from the environment around him. Boriss Bērziņš was a true master of form – he favored full, rounded, and warm shapes. This allows us to draw parallels with marathon participants, because in a mass sports event, very different people take part – not only athletes, not only those who have trained themselves and their bodies, but all of us!

Starting from March 17, the official Rimi Riga Marathon Nike running shirts are available for purchase at the Sportland store in the Spice shopping center. Soon, they will also be available in other major Sportland stores in shopping centers, as well as in the Sportland online store. A special addition this season, made possible through close cooperation with Sportland, is the wide range of color options for the official Nike running shirts, allowing every runner to choose their preferred shade.
