Charity initiative “Movement for Movement” raises more than €50,000 this year
27 August 2025The Rimi Riga Marathon charity initiative “Movement for Movement,” now in its sixth year and organized in cooperation with Rimi, the Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Latvian Television to support children with mobility impairments, has raised a record-breaking sum this year – €50,794. This is the largest amount collected during a single campaign since the initiative began.
The campaign is dedicated to children with mobility impairments. With the donated funds, support will be provided to 30 children by co-financing the purchase of technical aids, which will significantly ease movement and improve quality of life.
The record donation amount was achieved mainly thanks to private contributions made in Rimi store donation boxes, through “My Rimi” card savings, on the Children’s Hospital Foundation website, as well as by participants donating when registering for the Rimi Riga Marathon. This year, the initiative expanded by involving new partners. On May 14, “Rīgas Zeļļi” dedicated their first bronze series game of the Latvian Basketball League specifically to raising donations for “Movement for Movement.” Meanwhile, long-time Rimi Riga Marathon sponsor DPD Latvia carried out an internal Baltic-wide communication project during the campaign, encouraging employees to stay active and donating €1 to “Movement for Movement” for every 10 kilometers completed.
On behalf of the children and their families, I would like to sincerely thank Rimi and the Rimi Riga Marathon team, as well as every runner, walker, and supporter, for ensuring that the ‘Movement for Movement’ initiative continues not only to provide financial assistance but also to raise public awareness of the needs of children with mobility impairments and create new opportunities for them. Although in recent years state funding for technical aids has increased, we still see that children and families need additional support for orthopedic shoes, lifts, and other essential aids so they can stay active and participate in daily life. We plan that the €50,000 collected this year will allow us to co-finance at least 30 children, helping them acquire the necessary technical aids and improve their quality of life!
Liene Dambiņa
Chairwoman of the Children’s Hospital Foundation Board
From June 5 to July 31, donations to the “Movement for Movement” charity initiative could be made in several ways, with the largest amount collected in Rimi store donation boxes. A total of €29,958.75 was donated in the boxes, €7,473.83 through “My Rimi” card savings, €7,525 from marathon registration donations, €1,678 via the Children’s Hospital Foundation website, €2,287 from DPD Latvia, and €1,871.92 from the “Rīgas Zeļļi” charity basketball game. Altogether, the Children’s Hospital Foundation will receive €50,794.50 this year for the needs of children with mobility impairments thanks to the “Movement for Movement” campaign.

This record in the 35th anniversary season of the Rimi Riga Marathon is the most special of all, because it shows that runners are a responsible movement. We not only celebrate a running festival one weekend a year, but we also want to spread the joy of movement more widely and add value whenever we can. Every step, every donation, and every supporter’s participation gives the chance to experience the joy of movement to those for whom it is not a given in everyday life.
Aigars Nords
Head of the Rimi Riga Marathon organizing team
Rimi has always stood for an active and healthy society, as well as for helping those who need it most. We thank Rimi store visitors who donated not only in the in-store donation boxes but also by contributing their ‘My Rimi’ savings to help children experience the joy of movement. Thanks to everyone’s contributions, the daily lives of at least 30 children will improve – giving them the chance to move more freely and grow up healthier!

Although the 2025 donation campaign has ended, it is still possible to donate to children with mobility impairments via the Children’s Hospital Foundation website, as well as when registering for the 2026 marathon.
The Rimi Riga Marathon organizers, committed to their goal of “getting Latvia moving” since the very first marathon, have been inviting runners to support and donate to the “Movement for Movement” initiative since 2019, to help children who are deprived of the joy of movement.
