DPD Mile debuts on May 14

14 February 2022

As an expansion of the Rimi Riga Marathon’s traditional range of races, and to try and stimulate a faster recovery from the pandemic for public sporting events, the DPD Mile will debut in Riga on May 14th. This will simultaneously be the Latvian Championship for the 1,609 metre-long distance.

We hope that the distance, which is accessible and popular worldwide, will be tempting both for beginners just starting their running journey or those looking for a way to get active with their family. We also hope the race will appeal to experienced runners who want to test their abilities over a mile, as well as for potential candidates for the Latvian title, for whom the DPD Mile will be a good springboard for potential participation in the 2023 World Running Championships in Riga.

The start and finish lines for the new race on May 14th will be located in the very heart of the city: at the Freedom Monument. The 1.6 km race will allow runners to experience Brīvības and Kalpaka Boulevards, as well as Elizabetes Street and Kalpaka Street. The DPD Mile will close the Rimi Riga Marathon Kids’ Day on the afternoon of May 14th, replacing the usual 4.2 km Family Run, which was traditionally held at the end of Kids’ Day.
