Charity initiative “Movement for Movement” raises more than €40,000 this year

20 August 2026

The Rimi Riga Marathon’s charity initiative “Movement for Movement”, carried out for the eighth consecutive year in partnership with Rimi and the Children’s Hospital Foundation, raised €41,087.00 this year.

The campaign supports children with mobility impairments, with the funds helping to co-finance the purchase of assistive devices that can significantly improve mobility and quality of life.

For the second consecutive year, donations to “Movement for Movement” exceeded €40,000. This year, more than €41,000 was raised through donation boxes in Rimi stores, “Mans Rimi” card savings, donations via the Children’s Hospital Foundation website, and contributions made by participants when registering for the Rimi Riga Marathon. TV3 also joined the initiative as a new partner this year. Long-time Rimi Riga Marathon sponsor DPD Latvia continued its tradition of supporting the campaign, with employees taking more than 23 million steps in May and donating €1 for every 10 kilometres completed, raising €2,500 in total.

On behalf of the children and their families, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated and helped children experience the joy of movement. Behind every donation is a very real opportunity for a child to take safer steps, become more independent and participate more fully in everyday life. This year’s contribution of more than €41,000 will allow us to support several children by providing co-financing for essential assistive devices. We are incredibly grateful to Rimi, the Rimi Riga Marathon team and every donor for helping children move forward – step by step, kilometre by kilometre.

The “Movement for Movement” campaign raised more than €41,000 between 5 June and 31 July. The largest contribution – €20,600 – came through donation boxes in Rimi stores. A further €5,000 was donated from “Mans Rimi” card savings, €11,800 was raised through registrations for the 2027 Rimi Riga Marathon, and €1,200 was donated via the Children’s Hospital Foundation website. DPD Latvia contributed €2,500. In total, the Children’s Hospital Foundation will receive €41,000 to support children with mobility impairments.

To support assistive devices for children with mobility impairments

For the second year in a row, donations have exceeded €40,000, showing that the desire to help has become an integral part of our running community and the Rimi Riga Marathon culture. The opportunity to run and move is a tremendous gift, and it is special that through our kilometres and donations we can pass that joy on to those for whom movement is not something to take for granted. Thank you to every runner, partner and supporter who helped turn the joy of running into real and tangible support for children.

Rimi has been supporting an active and healthy society for many years, while also helping those who need it most. We are truly grateful to every Rimi customer who supported children with mobility impairments this year, whether through donations in our stores or by contributing their “Mans Rimi” card savings. Together with the Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Rimi Riga Marathon team, we are proud to continue an initiative that brings people together for a common cause and creates real change in children’s everyday lives.

Head of External Communications, Rimi Latvia

Although the 2026 donation campaign has ended, it is still possible to support children with mobility impairments through the Children’s Hospital Foundation website or by registering for the 2027 Rimi Riga Marathon.

The organisers of the Rimi Riga Marathon, who have been committed to their mission of getting Latvia moving since the very beginning, have invited runners to support and donate to “Movement for Movement” since 2019, helping children who are unable to experience the joy of movement. Since the partnership began, runners have donated tens of thousands of euros to the Children’s Hospital Foundation every year, raising nearly €200,000 in total.
