Artūrs Niklāvs Medveds Becomes Latvian Champion and New Latvian Record Holder in the DPD Mile
16 May 2026At the DPD Mile, which opened the Rimi Riga Marathon weekend on 16 May, the first medals were awarded and Latvian champions crowned. On the 1,609-metre course from the Latvian National Museum of Art to the Freedom Monument, an especially intense battle took place on the morning of 16 May in the men’s competition between the three favourites: Artūrs Niklāvs Medveds (04:09.4), Roberts Glazers (04:10.0) and Ņikita Bogdanovs (04:10.2).
All three athletes crossed the finish line faster than the Latvian record previously held by Ņikita Bogdanovs. The battle for the Latvian champion title in the women’s competition was just as close: Marta Livčāne (05:06.8), Asnate Caune (05:06.9) and Kitija Valtere (05:07.0).
In the Latvian Championship DPD Mile, Roberts Glazers finished immediately after the new Latvian record holder Artūrs Niklāvs Medveds (04:09.4), with a result of 04:10.0, improving his personal best by nearly 17 seconds, while Ņikita Bogdanovs won the bronze medal with 04:10.2.
In the women’s competition, Latvian champion Marta Livčāne achieved a result of 05:06.8, setting a new personal best. She was followed closely by Asnate Caune with 05:06.9 and Kitija Valtere with 05:07.0.
DPD Mile distance is gaining increasing popularity!
In total, nearly 7,000 participants took part in the DPD Mile distance today, including participants of the Latvian Schools Cup and the “Inclusive Marathon,” which is being organized together with Mēness Aptieka for participants with mobility impairments. The first day of the Rimi Riga Marathon continues with the large-scale Rimi Children’s Day on 11 November Embankment, where young athletes can run, take part in various sports, educational and entertainment activities.
