We expect more than 30 000 runners in Riga this year!
5 April 2024At the press conference in the “Spice” shopping mall, the Rimi Riga Marathon 2024 medal and official running shirts designed by Germans Ermičs were presented.
To the delight of all running fans, with the participation of Latvian Sportswoman of the Year Agate Caune the world’s largest treadmill was also officially revealed in “Spice”, on which anyone interested is invited to try the world record in a fun atmosphere until April 14.
We predict that on May 18 and 19, more than 30,000 participants from more than 80 countries will stand on the starting line.
On Saturday, the marathon weekend will be opened with the Olympic Kids’ Day with the DPD mile, which, as usual, will also be the Latvian championship in the road mile distance, and kids’ distances, in which young runners up to the age of 12 will be able to compete on the November 11 Embankment.
Kids will have the opportunity to take part in the Happy babies’ crawling course, 200-meter and 400-meter distances, as well as the 60-meter “Sprint King and Queen” distance, as well as participate in a number of other sports activities in Olympic sports and not only.
On the other hand, on Sunday, May 19, the participants of the longest distances – marathon and half marathon – will enter the starting line, as well as runners of the most popular distances – 10 km and 5 km.
More than 3,500 students will compete in the Latvian Schools Cup for a reduced participation fee in the DPD mile and 5km distances.
For a symbolic participation fee (2 euros), participants with functional disabilities will also have the opportunity to participate in the largest program in the history of the event – in cooperation with Mēnes Aptieka, the organizers will offer this opportunity to a large selection of 400 participants as part of the “Inclusive Marathon” program.
Not only Riga, but the whole of Latvia can rightly be proud that the most ambitious sports event in the Baltics takes place every year in our home, on the streets of Riga - the Rimi Riga Marathon is a great national sports event that has no similar in the entire region. Last year, more than 15,000 runners from 105 countries came to the Rimi Riga Marathon and the World Running Championship, creating an economic contribution of almost 12 million euros. In order not to stop at what we have achieved, we will work so that, thanks to the Rimi Riga Marathon, Riga can continue to proudly call itself the "running capital of the Northern European region".

All finishers will receive medals designed by Germans Ermičs
The finishers of all distances in the Rimi Riga Marathon, from the smallest ones on the Olympic Kids’ Day to the marathon distance, will receive medals designed by the internationally acclaimed Latvian artist Germans Ermičs.
Celebrating every runner’s journey, the medal design pays homage to a shoelace—a humble element in every runner’s shoe, uniting beginners and seasoned athletes alike. For the 5 km medal, a subtle twist marks the journey's beginning. As distances increase, the shoelace elegantly weaves, portraying each runner's unique path. Progressing, the medal fills, reaching full design at 42 km—an illustration of the journey's entirety.
These medals have no fixed front or back. The shoelace forms continuous loops, symbolizing experiences — no distinct sides, just a harmonious blend of a runner's evolving story.
Each medal shares equal size, reinforcing unity. This design signifies the inclusive nature of running—accessible to all. Whether shortest or longest distance, it’s your 100%, and that’s what matters.
