33003 participants from 104 countries registered for the Rimi Riga Marathon

33,003 participants have registered for the start of the Rimi Riga Marathon in various distances, which is almost thehighest number of runners registered in the Rimi Riga Marathon in the history of the event. All the distances of the Rimi Rīga Marathon – the road mile, 5km, 10km, half marathon and marathon – have qualified for the World Athletics Road Race Label, making the Rimi Riga Marathon the first running event in the world that combines five top-level competitions in one weekend, as well as an exciting Olympic Kids’ Day.

On May 18 in the Olympic Kids’ Day  7,067 young runners kids enjoyed not only the joy of running, but also got to know Olympic sports and got involved in other sports activities. On Saturday morning, 4,495 participants registered for the Latvian championship in the road mile.

On May 19 the marathon distance will gather 2,175 athletes while the half-marathon will see 4,834 runners take on the course. At noon 5,707 participants have planned to run the 10km distance, but the most popular distance – the 5km distance will conclude with 8,658 runners, who will start in two waves. The total number of registered participants in all distances on Saturday and Sunday reached 33,003 participants, which is almost 40% more than in 2023.

The Rimi Riga Marathon welcomes a significant number of foreign participants this weekend – 4,305 runners from 104 countries, or 60% more than last year. According to the data of the organizers’ surveys, each of the foreign participants on the journey to Riga is joined by an average of 1.3-1.7 co-passengers, thus, the total number of foreign participants and guests arriving in Riga during the Rimi Riga Marathon weekend is estimated at around eleven thousand this year.

A large number of school children from all over Latvia have also registered to participate in various distances – 60 Latvian schools and almost 4,000 students will fight for the victory in the Latvian Schools Cup. 265 teams have qualified for the Rimi Teams’ Cup – 134 teams will compete in the competition of small companies, 77 in the competition of medium-sized companies, and 54 teams in the competition of large companies. This year, the main partner of Rimi Riga Marathon, Rimi team with 560 participants have taken the title of the biggest team.
