The Rimi Riga Marathon begins charity campaign "Good Will Kilometers”
For the second year in a row, the Rimi Riga Marathon charity campaign “Good Will Kilometers”, which was created in cooperation with Rimi, the Children's Hospital Foundation and Latvian Television, was opened in a solemn run for children with disabilities on the AB dam. The aim of the campaign is to encourage runners from 1 to 31 July to run for those who are not able to and donate to children with disabilities. It is possible to donate on the website of the Children's Hospital Foundation and in Rimi's donation boxes, while everyone can run their "Good Will Kilometers" anywhere in Latvia by registering in advance at the Rimi Riga Marathon Virtual Running Club.
As part of the initiative, the marathon organizers, together with Garmin and VSK Noskrien, are offering a charity auction for Garmin personal pace keepers - the three most generous contributors, who will make a donation transfer to the Children's Hospital Foundation in July as part of the "Good Will Kilometer" campaign, will receive a personal Garmin pace keeper that will help to finish the selected distance at the chosen time and pace.
For the second year in a row, the Rimi Riga Marathon in cooperation with Rimi, Children's Hospital Foundation and Latvian Television, is organizing a “Good Will Kilometers" campaign with the aim of collecting donations for children with disabilities and running for those who are not able to.
I am very happy that “Good Will Kilometers” campaign is becoming a tradition, and for the second year in a row we can collect donations for children with mobility impairments together with the Rimi Riga Marathon in summer. Last year, a total of 29,422 EUR were donated, enabling us to help 12 children by paying for orthoses, orthopaedic shoes, modular sitting system and mobility aids. This is a great and infinitely important support for every child and their families!” says Liene Dambiņa, Chairman of the Board of the Children's Hospital Foundation.
Jēkabs’ (9-year-old) mother, whose son was among 12 children, is grateful for last year's charity initiative: "Last year's marathon campaign "Good Will Kilometers" was, in my opinion, much more than just collecting donations for a specific purpose - it was an activity that made everyone think that the ability to run is a gift, and everyone - even the most unsportsmanlike - can run at least one kilometre to support and motivate children who do not have such opportunities. There are hundreds of children in Latvia who can stand on their own feet only with the help of special aids - orthoses. Unfortunately, a couple of orthoses cost a lot, much more than good sports shoes, and families have to look for funding year after year to buy these aids. Thank you to everyone who dares to add their own good will kilometre, not only by running and donating money, but also acting to inspire those children whose lifetime kilometers are still ahead.”
This year in July, donations for children with disabilities are accepted on the Children's Hospital Foundation website or in Rimi donation boxes.
Garmin Pace Keepers Charity Auction
As part of the charity campaign "Good Will Kilometers", the organizers of the Rimi Riga Marathon in cooperation with the Children's Hospital Foundation, Garmin and the association "VSK Noskrien" are organizing an unprecedented charity auction this year. All proceeds from the auction are automatically received by the Children's Hospital Foundation, and the amount is added to the donations of the charity initiative "Good Will Kilometers".
For the three most generous contributors, the organizers offer the opportunity to receive Garmin personal pace keepers, which will help to cover the 42 km, 21 km and 10 km distance. If the donation amounts are the same, the one who made the donation first will have an advantage. Garmin personal pace keeper can be transferred to another person who has registered for the marathon. Auction participants are invited to fill in the questionnaire.

We invite you to run or walk with a high-minded goal in July - for those who are not able to.
