RIMI RIGA MARATHON OFFERS THE COURSE “MARATHON @ MEŽAPARKS” TO RUN FROM MAY 8TH TO 16TH
During the traditional Rimi Riga Marathon race dates in May, we will be holding an epidemiologically safe run adapted for the pandemic: our Marathon @ Mežaparks course. In collaboration with Rīgas Meži, runners will be able to run on the 5 km measured course at a time they have previously booked. The course will weave through the central avenues of the Mežaparks cultural and leisure park, as well as through the Mežaparks Gread Bandstand, and time-tracking equipment will automatically record runners’ times, as well as taking a picture of them crossing the Great Bandstand. The Rimi Riga Marathon’s technology partner, Tet, will be responsible for the race numbers fitted with special chips, which will record race times and provide access to photos taken at the Great Bandstand. Runners can book a running time and buy a race number for delivery via DPD courier.
We took inspiration for the race from the practices used by Latvia’s skiing tracks this winter, which allowed people to ski in person during the pandemic by allowing people to reserve a time at the course.
MARATHON @ MEŽAPARKS WITH RACE NUMBERS
The 5 km measured Mežaparks Marathon course will be open from May 8th to 16th between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. every day. To book a time to run, as well as to track their time, gain access to the Mežaparks Great Bandstand and receive a photo, runners will need to purchase a race number.
The number will be used to identify runners in their photos, which will be available for free download at www.sportfoto.com. Runners with a number will be able to run once or several times, and you can run not just 5 km, but also 10 km, 15 km or more. Runners’ track times will be recorded per lap—every 5 km—and will be published on the results website. Numbers will be sent to participants using DPD, the Marathon’s official courier.
