We will run the Rimi Riga Marathon on October 10-11
We are back on track and ready to announce the dates. 30th anniversary marathon will take place on October 10-11, 2020. The Kids’ Day and Family Run will take place on October 10th, while the 42km, 21km, 10km and 6km races will take place on October 11th. The registration is open!
“It is impossible to predict how the spread of the pandemic will develop and what restrictions will be in place in the autumn, but we have made the decision to run this year on the 10th and 11th of October,” comments Aigars Nords, Race Director of the Rimi Riga Marathon. “If restrictions are lifted in full, the 30th Rimi Riga Marathon will take place at a scale fitting for an anniversary marathon. If restrictions are still in place, we will adapt, introducing creative innovations allowing the anniversary marathon to take place without a hitch while adhering to epidemiologists’ recommendations. For the first time in the event’s history, the marathon may also happen virtually, with participants being given the opportunity to run their Rimi Riga Marathon race individually, recording their distance and time in a specially-developed app. The good news is, we will be running, and the 30th Rimi Riga Marathon will take place with a special anniversary medal!”
We are asking runners to remain open-minded and avoid confusion over changes to the marathon resulting from possible restrictions, including a potential virtual marathon or, for example, a hybrid event taking place partially in person, partially virtually.
To win a special anniversary medal, each participant will have to train and run their chosen distance regardless of whether the event takes place in person or virtually. In the case of a virtual marathon, distances and results can be recorded using all the most popular running apps, smartphones and fitness trackers, while the Rimi Riga Marathon site will collect the results and announce the winners automatically.
We still hope that the restrictions on large events will be completely lifted in time so that the 30th anniversary marathon on October 10th and 11th can take place like every year, with a joint start this year at the Freedom Monument and a finish at the Embankment, new courses along the most beautiful city streets, special anniversary medals, energy points and music. If, however, restrictions remain in place, organisers are not excluding the possibility of staggered starts and dividing participants into “waves”, a virtual marathon, or a so-called hybrid event allowing for distancing for the safety of participants.
Each registered participant will receive a letter with instructions on what they have to do. There are three options:
- taking part in the Rimi Riga Marathon this year on October 10th and 11th,
- transferring their spot on October 10th and 11th to another runner along with all additional purchases (official Nike t-shirt, SIS bundle and other goodies),
- transferring their participation to May 2021.
The choice must be registered before June 12th in the participant’s user profile, which we will send to your email in the upcoming days. This can be done at no additional cost. After June 12th, no additional changes can be made.
