WELCOME TO THE MAIN EVENT OF THE RACE WEEKEND!
The Rimi Riga Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 11, 2020.
Due to COVID-19 and possible state restrictions we are open to various options how the 30th anniversary race could take place – a physical event, a virtual event or a combination of both. The good news: whatever form it takes, the 30th anniversary Rimi Riga Marathon will take place on October 10-11 in Riga with special anniversary medals for all who run on those dates. Please read the FAQ section for more details.
The new course for 2020 will show off the city of Riga and its variety even more: runners will enjoy Riga's central street - Brīvības Street, visit one of the most beautiful and greenest neighbourhoods of Mežaparks, take a tour through Riga's Art Nouveau architecture of Elizabetes street, run across the two oldest bridges of Riga - Vanšu and Akmens bridges, and expierience the romantic districts of Dzegužkalns and Āgenskalns.
The course elevation is minimal as Riga is mostly flat. The only parts with some elevation are the three bridges of Gustava Zemgala (kilometre 5 and 16), Vanšu (kilometre 29) and Akmens (kilometre 41).
THE START AND FINISH
The start for all distances will be given at the Freedom Monument next to Old Riga. The finish for all distances will be on the 11th November Embankment on the opposite side of Old Riga and next the river Daugava. Both locations are 1 km apart.

The starting blocks for all runners will be assigned closer to the event.
A bag check will be available at the start/finish area. Please note that this service is optional and free of charge. If you decide to opt for the bag check, please indicate this during the registration process.

Refreshments will be served in the following sequence:
- individual drinks of elite runners
- Science in Sport isotonic drink
- bananas and oranges
- container with sponges
Science in Sport energy gels will be available at dedicated energy points.
A detailed chart with energy points will be available closer to the event. All energy points will be placed not greater than 5 km apart.
Emergency medical aid (EMA) vehicles with medic brigades will be located in various locations of the course throughout the event and Medical Staff will be available in all energy points and in-between them. If medical assistance is needed at the start and finish area, a First Aid tent next to the finish arc will be at your service.
The official pacemaker team has 50+ experienced pacemakers who are able to ensure any finish time from 3h to 5h. Our pacemakers have experience in IAU 24H World Championships (with new CR), IAU 100km European Championship, IAU World Cup 50km and many marathons around the world. No language issues - team speaks fluent English and Russian. The team consists of runners who are passionate towards the work that they are doing – they will not only ensure a perfect run in terms of timing, but also make the race less hard and more fun for people running with them.
